Getting There |
The closest airport is Jerez La Parra—a thirty minute drive door to door. Ryanair fly direct from Stansted regularly. Hiring a car is recommended if you want to visit the surrounding area. You can hire through Hertz via the Ryanair website, although there are plenty of other companies to chose from located at the airport. Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to Arcos should cost around €50. As you leave the airport, take the fly-over and follow the road until you reach the motorway. Then follow the signs to Arcos through various slip roads until you reach the motorway again. From the motorway, after about 20 minutes’ drive, take the first exit to Arcos (oueste) and follow the road into the town. Following the signs to the Parador will set you on the right track to get to the old town. See interactive maps below. You can also fly to Madrid from Stansted and take a connecting flight to Jerez on Ryanair or other airlines. Otherwise flying direct to Seville, about an hour’s drive to Arcos, is also convenient. |
Although there is car park at the top of the old town, it’s often easier to find space in the underground car park located in the new town. Ask for a ticket for 3 days or a week which works out much cheaper. See left for directions from entering the new town to the underground car park. There are also various other car parks and of course you can always park on the street if you prefer.

If you have baggage, it’s best to drive all the way up to the house in the old town and stop directly outside to unload. Although the street is too narrow to park at the house, loading and unloading is no problem. Once you reach the top of the old town, follow the signs for ‘Salida Ciudad’ which will take you right past the house.
|
The one way system means that you continue down to get back to the new town. From there follow the map (left) to get back to the underground car park and rest of the new town. Note that driving in the old town can often be difficult as the streets are so narrow. You may prefer to take a taxi the first time from the car park to the house. It should cost around €5. You can ask for a taxi in the car park, or find one just outside up the street.

Going back, take the motorway to Jerez. As you approach Jerez, after passing the exits for Seville and Cadiz, you will see an exit for the airport. Follow the signs. |
